I know, I know. A writing challenge, in December? But, Barri, I am so busy. I am not a writer. I am calling BS on that. Right here and right now. Who’s in?
Whenever I share a writing prompt in group, I watch all of the heads go down without a beat of hesitation. Here is one thing I know FOR SURE. I know that there is a writer in all of you. There is something juicy, funny, curious, hideous, delicious, stunning, gritty, griefy, (your word here) that is hiding in the depths of the subconscious — that needs knowing. Unleash it.
So go ahead. Write like no one is reading. Ditch the grammar and sentence structure. Really. Get out of your own way and….GO. This a practice. And a teeny, tiny word count. You will feel so good when this is done, I promise! Come to the page and just see what is under the hood. It does not have to be poetic or prose - but surely it could. It might. (So far this paragraph is at 60 words, by the way). Only 40 more to go, we’ve got this.
I will share a prompt a day on my IG and here in notes. The prompt for today is:
If I knew I could do this without failing, I would try it tomorrow.
Allow whatever comes up for you, to be written by hand, or typed, or dashed out here in the comments. Give yourself the freedom and permission, to just be curious. In the illustrious words of Julia Cameron’s The Artists Way — we are all born creatives. Somewhere along the way, did someone quash that for you? Get it back…own it!
There is good juicy science around writing to heal. Just last week I read a white paper with evidenced backed findings. I know in my bones writing heals - but proof! I will take it.
(I will be offering a JOURNAL TO HEAL course in the new year. Save these Tuesdays… February 6, 20, March 5, 19, and April 2 — from 7-8pm est. Let me know if you want to be added to the waitlist.)
Here is to your hundreds. Write on friends.
x, B
