Writing, and especially, writing by hand — is such a beautiful form of movement, magic and revelation. It was a gift to share writing time with you this evening. It is always an honor to hold space for creativity and curiosity. As promised, here are the sources from the Write & Reflect workshop. If you were not there this tonight, enjoy these delicious poems, books and prose that enlightened our work, they are well worth keeping in your orbit.
Prayers of Honoring by Pixie Lighthorse “Honoring The Spark”
Softening Time: Collected Poems by Elena Brower “Dear Seven Year Old Self”
The Book of Delights by Ross Gay
“Brave” by Bianca Sparacino
“Otherwise” by Jane Kenyon
It Could Have Happened by Wislawa Szymborska
The Quiet Machine by Ada Limón
Vessel, deck by Mary Elizabeth Evans (the card tonight was Movement)
My website is always full of my favorite resources (including my own prompt led deck!)
The next workshop will be hosted at the end of September and we will spend writing time together exploring the ethical will. This concept was first revealed to me in the pages of Steve Leder’s memoir, The Beauty of What Remains. It is not the “who gets grandma’s pearls” variety, but the values and virtues for which you wish to be remembered. This exercise is thought to reveal and uncover that which you stand for morally and consciously. When leaning into the very importance of this document, you begin to live into its very truth.
If you are curious about grief support, our next group begins in September. Let’s set up some time to connect.
thank you, thank you. re-reading The Year of Magical Thinking now and learning so much - third time... love you
